Pair
Excluding the face value cards, a pair refers to cards of 10 and under that have an equal numerical value. For example two fives, or a pair of fives.
Pat Hand
After initial cards are dealt, pat hand is a starting hand with a total numerical value of between 17 and 21. Players are advised to stand on Pat hands, as being dealt a further card has high odds of making the total value of the hand over 21.
Pay Out Ratio
The pay out ratio is value of your bet and the corresponding value of the win. For example a bet of $20 pays out $20 on an even pay out ratio of 1 to 1. Blackjack pays at 3 to 2 therefore a $20 bet pays out at $30.
Peek
A look taken by the Dealer to see if he has Blackjack prior to the player’s decision to take more cards.
Pit
The area in a casino surrounded by table games.
Past Post
A phrase that refers to cheating by placing or adding to a wager after the time no further bets are allowed.
Player
An individual who competes in a game against other individuals, for the purpose of winning the game at hand.
Pontoon
An alternative name for Blackjack that is commonly used amongst amateur players in England and Australia
Push
Equal hand values by dealer and player in a round of Blackjack. In most instances the player’s bet is returned when there is a push
