Blackjack Myth 3: Stand on a Dozen against a Deuce

One of the classic myths that casino blackjack players often explain to supposedly less knowledgeable players is the importance of standing on a hard 12 against a dealer’s 2. This is wrong in every way but is extremely understandable from a psychological point of view if not from a winning blackjack point of view!

When you are showing a hard 12 or a 2 and a 10 value card against the dealer’s 2 you are in a really bad position either way. If you hit you will lose 63% of the time and if you stand you will lose 65% of the time. Obviously it is better to hit in this case as you win 2% more of the time than if you stand. Never make the mistake of letting other blackjack players tell you how to play unless you know for certain they know all the actual probabilities.

Everybody agrees that a 12 against the dealer’s 2 is a horrible hand to have and the hope is that the dealer hits twice picking up two 10 value cards and busting to leave you standing on 12 feeling good for yourself. The truth though is that there is negligible difference for online blackjack players but if you are putting the number of hands in then you always want that 2%.  If you play blackjack and you make the correct decisions you can be more profitable so analyse these situations mathematically not mythically.

You can play many more online blackjack hands than you can casino blackjack hands and these 2% differences can add up very quickly. Make the right decisions!
